What's Next?
So far, Concerned in KCB has focused on removing impediments. Our questions and news have uncovered a host of shortcomings and brought them to light. The referendum on city hall has given you a voice in more than just a building. It has exposed a city commission ignoring its citizens and disrespectful city employees determined to prosecute anyone who stands in their way.
The December organizational meeting has resolved some of those bottlenecks so it's time to look ahead.
KCB used to be "a sleepy little [beach] town with a fishing problem." What can we do to return that sense of community to our little city?

City Hall
City Hall and the Post Office were the focal point of our little city. We could trade news and fish stories at the post office and we could "fix the world's problems" with the mayor or the city clerk or the building official.
"I hate the LIVS design."
"I love the LIVS design."
"All we need is to repair the old City Hall."
"The old City Hall is too small."
"What about the ..."
Concerned's first committee will have an engineer, a commercial builder, an architect, someone knowledgeable in HR and the ADA, and a business accountant to prepare 3-4 alternates so KCB citizens can choose the best City Hall design for the next 66 years. The stories are up to you. Visit bit.ly/KCBCityHall for a look at some of the current proposals.

There are many questions about "sloppy," error-prone, and even suspicious accounting. We need a forensic accountant for a deep dive into the day-to-day city revenues and expenditures for the City Hall project, the building department, and city administration, all followed by an investigation of the statements of fact attributed to city officials. Email for more info and to join the Finance Committee.
Jobs

Why does the city need three or more lawyers at every meeting? Does the Building Department spend $300,000 on salaries? How many employees does the city really need? KCBers have the experience to examine employee needs in the city compared to other cities of simialr size. Email for more info and to form the Jobs Committee.
Recall

Whether by recall or by the "regular" election on November 5, 2024, KCB citizens want to change the way city officials rule the roost. KCBers can fix it by recalling the perpetrators. You know we can fix this ... together.

"It's KCB," one contractor said recently. "They make their own rules." Finding responsive city officials will solve some of that but we all know the city ordinances are woefully out of date. KCB needs a committee of stakeholders to review the ordinances and decide which ones are obsolete, which are just wrong, and which are good, and to suggest revisions. This is going to be a big job but we can make it better ... together.

Hotwiring a "Smart" City

A sales team pitched the city to buy their TV/Internet package for every house and condo in KCB. That one company will be paid through your taxes.
There are big questions about the safety, security, invasion of privacy, monopolization, and cost of any city-wide, taxpayer funded, Internet provider. There is particular concern about the privacy issue of housing the server in a government center. Email for more info and to help examine the best broadband improvements.
