Why Not Just Consent?
Good evening.
I’m not here to talk about the button woods in Sunset Park at this time. I’ll be back to that in September and fingers crossed the storms will be kind to us.
I do wonder sometimes how Dave [city administrator Turner] is reconciling the potential new pagoda in Sunset Park with his need for the Feds etc to approve any work there and his concern for what he saw as endangered species before he could allow any hedge trimming there but I guess he’s made his peace or he’s accepted the stories he wove for me lacked foundation, and grace, so the new pagoda is ok even with a floor that may not support water infiltration like sand. (I’m fine with the new pagoda: as the owner with Kirk of KCP # 1, we witness the joy people take from the park, it’s great).
It’s this lack of foundation, and grace, I write about.
All these challenges you face as a group now flow because there has become in KCB a complete loss of grace and a fractured foundation.
For it seems much of the population you have nothing to build with. No foundation. There has developed a lack of confidence so strong that even if you’re right, and that won’t bear out for 5 to 10 years, you’re not going to be believed whether it’s about sewer pipes or water treatment or seasonal decorations or a new building. A group of you have lost credibility and the manner in which it seems you have tasked your people to give life to the policies Dave was so adamant to me you set and they deliver on has created unthinkable damage. Your people, not Mike [Public Works' Mike Guarino], have been mostly combative, totally without grace. Your counsel appears to take this approach too so those must be his instructions from you, leadership. He doesn’t have to be that way. He can take integrity and elegance to the job, good substance and good process, and move your causes along with your voters in a way that makes you better and you, and we, get better results. But no.
In my line of work when there is a loss of confidence we step aside. I guess that doesn’t happen with politicians but there is a way to address the confidence issue: let the proposed referendum on the new building go ahead.
Consent. Let your voters have their say. Consent is a strong word in law: your counsel will tell you. It shows you can be agreeable and you have confidence that you’re doing the right thing, with the will of the majority. So why don’t you do that? Let this unfold in a way your voters are heard and you can then move on.
I’ll be done. If any of you read this thank you. See you on zoom this week.

Our World Has Turned Upside Sown
Our world in Key Colony Beach is turned upside down. What used to be a Pleasantville kind of atmosphere here has turned into a confused and sad place of dissension and mistrust.
A citizens group, a large contingency, has initiated an injunction to stop the madness. A referendum is on its way so the people can have a voice in what they find acceptable for their future in KCB. That's a sure sign of distrust in those who lead us.
I suggest a step back out of the fray. A review and an explanation of the new building project for the people that could allay the fears of the citizenry is in order. Some sort of workshop where the commission can explain succinctly and in detail what a new plan would be either for a new building and/or an old building rehab. All the questions and fears are allayed. Peace once more could be the prevailing atmosphere in Key Colony Beach.
I can't believe our KCB Commissioners would want anything less than the blessing of the people. When trust is restored and a clear picture of our move into the future is understood we can go back to Pleasantville.
Very sincerely,

Editorial Comment: What beautiful words Janie; if they only can come true.
Thank you for trying to appeal the the commissioners' honorable sides although so far only two commissioners have listened. We KCBers will do this with or without the commissioners.
