Letters Sent to the Commission

A Sampling of Letters to the Commission for the June, 2023 Meetings

Dear KCB Mayor and Commissioners,

The lack of transparency in city governing and affairs seems to be continuing, not only keeping the citizens uninformed of what's going on but even extending this to some of your own commission. When I contacted Commissioner Foster a few weeks ago about the move of the Post Office to the trailer, he was unaware that it was even moved. At the 6/15 meeting, Commissioner Raspe was unaware of what fraudulent activity that was being brought up.

I understand the FL Sunshine Law prevents commissioners from meeting to share information, however, wouldn't the commission meetings be the place to bring things up and discuss them publicly before attempting to take an action?

After listening to the 6/15/23 meeting, if I had been a KCB commissioner attending the meeting, I would have wanted to ask the following questions in public:

What are the details of the fraud in question?

Who authorized City Attorney Dirks Smits to obtain a cost estimate from an investigative attorney?

What is the name of the independent investigator that submitted a cost estimate for services in the fraud question?

It's very hard for us citizens to have any faith in our commissioners when we are kept in the dark.

Respectfully,
Constance Foster
