I read with extreme interest the challenges facing KCB City Hall. We have lived in KCB since 1995. There are simple solutions to the challenges if people focus on the true needs.
1. Does KCB need a city hall to conduct business? Yes
2. Is the old city hall structurally sound to rebuild? There are many opinions but the one I have the most faith in is Ed's [Borysiewicz], the previous building inspector who said yes it can be rebuilt.
3. If Chris Moonis did indeed chip out the new concrete added to KCB city hall to compensate for the sinking floor in order to accentuate the damage caused by Hurricane Irma then that is fraud and should be dealt with accordingly.
4. If the building is sound it should be remodeled and updated.
5. Continued impasse leads to delays and increased cost.
6. Why does anyone need 22 bids for repairing anything? This leads to paralysis by analysis. We hire city mayors, commissioners and inspectors to work for us to keep our city running efficiently and to handle the challenges that occur through the duration of their tenure. If they cannot build a consensus in a reasonable time and solve the issue at hand they are not capable of the job they were hired to do and be should replaced by ones that can. So, is the city running as efficiently as possible or are our government employees stuck in an argument about, "is the damage to city hall more or less than 50%"? This seems to be the sticking point so pease make a decision whichI believe is yes from my previous conversations. If is no then tear down the old and build a new city hal.
7. I refer back to question 1. As a citizen of KCB, I want our city hall rebuilt as quickly, efficiently and sufficiently as necessary. I personally do not need a monument for a city hall. But I do want a functioning one as soon as possible. Those "temporary" portables are a constant reminder of the inability of our hired government employees to do the work they were tasked to do. Plus, they are major eyesore, an irritant more than my floating dock was that I was forced to remove.
