Please be advised that I am against the prospect of a new KCB city hall.
I believe it's more of a "want" than a "need" and perhaps has been so all along by a small group. Beyond the Irma flood damage, people I speak to in the community seemed to have no idea how or why this idea of a new grandiose structure originated. Who is promoting this...and what kind of "skin in the game" do they have? How do they benefit...beyond having a nice office if they work there.
As an aside, I ran a business with a budget over twice the size of KCB's and for nearly 50 years never had much more than a small 12' x 12' dingy office in an old converted coal company building over 100 years old. Yes, my choice. Guess what: it worked; we were always solvent with no debt service. Now I don't expect KCB to resort to an old coal company building but certainly it doesn't need to put the taxpayers in debt by wasting everyone's hard earned dollars...and believe me they are hard earned.
The existing city hall is actually a nice building and with the needed repairs and freshening up it will be just fine. Please be prudent with other people's money. Everyone complains about the abundant waste we have via Washington DC. Do we have to emulate that kind of extravagance? WE DON'T NEED A CITY HALL OUT OF PROPORTION TO OUR MEANS. KCB is a little community. City employees do need a decent place to work. Keep things in perspective. Thx for listening.
