Setting the Record Clear on the State of City Hall

This letter went to the Citizen and was forwarded to us by the writer.

After reading your second article regarding replacing the current town hall in Key Colony Beach with a new building I want to set the record clear on your statement, now in two articles, that state the current town hall has been shuttered for almost 6 years.

As late as 7/28/22 city commission meetings were held in the auditorium. Offices for city administrators were in the trailer across the street from city hall but the auditorium was useable and bathrooms were functional. You can go back to agendas and commission meetings minutes to verify this. It wasn’t until new trailers were brought in for “city hall and post office” use that commission meetings were held in the “temporary” city hall. I ask that you verify what you publish as you may be being fed incorrect and/or exaggerated information.

There might be shutters on the windows of town hall, but the building was not barred from use until sometime after 7/28/22. The post office, according to engineers report 9/2019, was not structurally damaged and actually not even flooded with hurricane Irma. It is still fully functioning today.
