Funds Axed for Key Colony Beach

"All around us: Liars, damn liars and politicians," Terry Manning wrote in the Island News.

He could have been writing about this island.

"We'll get $2.3 million from the State of Florida for 'hardening' the new City Hall," they said.

"We'll lose the $2.3 million 'hardening' grant if we don't build the new City Hall," they said.

"We need the $2.3 million 'hardening' grant to balance the budget for the new City Hall," they said.

Well, guess what? Guess what they didn't tell us.

The State of Florida's budget included only $1 million for 'hardening' the new KCB City Hall. Not the "$2.3 million" they promised.

Guess what else they didn't tell us.

Yep, we won't get even $1 million for 'hardening' the new City Hall from the State of Florida which means the liars, damn liars and politicians will try to get it all from thee and me:

DeSantis Vetoes $500 Million from State Budget--Funds Axed for Key Colony Beach and Islamorada Projects. The Marathon Weekly reports, "Of the $510.9 million in projects and programs DeSantis vetoed, $1 million was taken out of the budget for the repair and hardening of Key Colony Beach's City Hall. Constructed in the late 1950s, the building was ravaged by Hurricane Irma in 2017 and deemed unusable for the last six years." Except that the building was still in use as recently as last year and even now there is an investigation brewing about fraud by those who deemed it unusable.

Isn't it time to send packing the city "officials" who got us into this mess? Isn't it time for a city commission and city employees who show us the facts and tell us the truth?
