People are asking ... what is the February Townhall Meeting about?
The City Commission will host its monthly "Townhall Meeting" at the Key Colony Inn and as a Zoom webinar on Monday, February 12 at 9:30 a.m. Townhall Meetings are planned for the Monday before each monthly city commission meeting.
Come in person! Attend on Zoom!
Have your questions and comments ready!
The city commission really wants to hear from all KCBers!
Be persuasive. Be focused. Be present.
Mayor Raspe will give an update on the old city hall. Mayor Raspe is right that there are questions about City Hall. We hope the commission will invite a citizens' committee to prepare 3-4 alternate plans. Visit bit.ly/KCBCityHall for a look at some of the current proposals.
Commissioner Harding will discuss the 2025 Fiscal Year budget challenges. A good question to ask is, Why have the city budget and property taxes skyrocketed? (This link has historical information that still paints an accurate picture.)
Vice-Mayor Foster will begin looking at code enforcement and citizen education. The KCB code officer has violated hundreds of property owners for trash can lids, "egress windows," and claims of building code and rental license errors. Residents have complained about harassment and selective enforcement. The prior commission disbanded the citizen Code Board in favor of a DOAH judge to rubber stamp the code officer's claims. The code officer appears to run enforcement as a profit center. City records show over $133,000 in recorded fines and nearly $500,000 in total fines levied in 2023. We hope the commission will consider how badly code enforcement has divided our city.
Bring you stories and solutions to share during 17 minutes of Citizen Comment. Letters, too.
Commissioner Vickery abruptly resigned and will not be present.
The Commission together plans to discuss the qualifications and requirements for a city administrator. We hope the commission will consider that we've struck out twice on city administrators. Do we even need another one?
Please attend the meeting to hear the news and to tell your story or make your requests. The commission invites all KCBers to air their interests and concerns on these topics. Really. They do want to hear from you. Town hall meetings educate the commissioners who have pledged to include your issues at the commission meetings.
KCB is our little city. Be there. Be ready. Be focused. Be persuasive. And please volunteer to help our gem and to stand against the remaining false claims.
This meeting will be held at the temporary meeting place for the City of Key Colony Beach at the Key Colony Inn Banquet Room at 700 W. Ocean Drive, Key Colony Beach, Florida, and virtually via Zoom.
