The city can install surveillance cameras throughout the city

The city can push information to all residents.

Security intrusions.
(And the concern of putting the main server--and all the new surveillance tools of a surveillance city--in City Hall.)

Nearest tecnician is on the Mainland.

A twenty (20) year contract is unconscionable.

In 20 years, every KCB home will be on 10G wireless or satellite service or something we haven't predicted yet.
(20 years is about 13 generations in technology.
Do you have a 20-year-old mobile phone or television or computer?)

Removes individual choice.
(It's a government-mandated monopoly no matter what they call it.)

Priced at double the competition rates for single reidence hookups.
(The 4% annual increase means the price will more than double over the life of the contract.)

The fee is added to the tax bill as a "municipality service."
Every property owner pays whether or not they use Hotwire.

If the city hall hub loses power, all KCB Internet and communications are dead in the water.
That's not the case for coax-based or landline phone-based service.

The city will install surveillance cameras throughout the city.

Current national companies have longer and stronger financial backing.
(The Hotwire reviews are consistently bad.)

Not at all fair to our beloved winter residents (aka Snowbirds)
(For property owners whether residents/snowbirds/renters who don't want Internet, it's a taking.)

* Optional at extra cost. See the Hotwire Rate Sheet for details.
