Proposal #4 from a KCB resident

This proposal ups the ante. If the decision is made to build new, here's a good alternative for the many, many residents who want to "keep what we have."

This alternative to the grandiose LIVS-designed city hall plan satisfies

• The City requirement that the "architectural style and building materials" of new construction "are harmonious in character."
• The space requirements listed by employees, residents, and the police department.
• The needs for secure records storage and on-site utilities.
• Keeping all spaces on a single floor.

This 7,700 s.f. City Hall floorplan is designed to make the best use of the existing structures.

• The contractor could "lift the roof off " the "adminstration area," refurbish that space, and add the necessary additional space.
• The contractor could refurbish the existing Marble Hall and post office wing, demolish the "adminstration area," and build a new "wing."
• The contractor demolish the entire structure and build the new City Hall on the original footprint.

Here's rendering of what you'd see of this simpler building's footprint while "flying over" the city hall lot. This image is overlaid on the current "bird's eye view" of the lot. The white area is the proposed roofline. The proposed construction preserves most of the grass, the trees, and the layout that make the present city hall lawn so inviting.

Worth noting is the simple fact that six years of delay have nearly doubled construction costs.

In today's inflated economy, this project is likely to cost more than $3 million but less than $4 million when it's all said and done. (That's as much as $10 million "cheaper" than the building the City put out for bids.) The right answer is to develop new plans and request legitimate bids for each alternative.
