Proposal #1 from a KCB resident
The architecture should make the best possible use of the existing lot and take advantage of the current structure until construction is completed. The current plan calls for tearing down City Hall, Marble Hall, and the Post Office, relocating the Post Office to yet another temporary trailer, and losing the meeting/community space that now exists.
This 2018 proposal was a slightly different solution: Tear down the currently abandoned offices wing of the City Hall building, leaving the Post Office and Marble Hall intact. Fence off a walkway so visitors can access the Post Office and Marble Hall during construction. And build the new City Hall on an east-west line over the south parking lot and part of the current lawns. This "Google Earth" style image shows how that would look from the air.

Oriented as shown, the new City Hall building has plenty of space for all city offices, secure records storage, the Post Office, and a new, larger community hall, plus additional, under-the-building parking.
When the new City Hall is complete, demolish the original Post Office and Marble Hall and landscape that part of the lot into a beautiful green space overlooking and framing the 7th Street Canal. This "Google Earth" style image shows how the finished City Hall and its green space would look from the air with parking in three lots closer to the new building than to the current one.

Then-Mayor John DeNeale wouldn't give this idea even a second glance. Current Mayor Patti Trefrey probably has "never heard of it."
