People Are Asking

Residents spoke out about the June 15 Key Colony Beach Commission meeting:

» "Notice that the city used a Webinar this time so that we were not privy to who was on the Zoom meeting."
• That couldn't be purposeful, now could it?
• The controls for video and audio muting were gone so we have no idea if they could see or hear us, although when Laurie Swanson or Mary McFadden spoke via Zoom, all we saw was a black screen with their names.

» "A good portion of the meeting was unintelligible to me. Patti Trefrey's, Silvia Grantsee's, Dirk Smits', Freddie Foster's, and Joey Raspe's mics were only partially audible. Tom Harding's was mostly not audible. I put the problem over and over again in the Question/Answer portion. No chat available. I have done more than 50 meetings on my computer and only had trouble with the KCB meetings."
• The audio was spotty, changing in volume and tone while the commissioners spoke.
• Silvia Grantsee blamed it on the "receiving end." There were many complaints.

» "I did hear most of the fraud info. What a joke. Do you suppose the investigator will be frank to commission with what he gets from interviewing former employees?"

"It is important that KCB stand tall and we must operate within the law and with integrity," Commissioner Beth Ramsay-Vickrey said.

• City Attorney Dirk Smits informed the meeting that the investigator is someone he is already using as an "independent investigator" in another case. He didn't identify the lawyer or case.
• We expect it to be a private attorney and a friend of the city attorney so it is definitely a friend of the Gang of 3.
• The city attorney said the statute of limitations clock starts now with the notification of a possible crime.
• The question isn't will he be frank? The question is will he ask questions that get to the truth or questions that meet the Gang of 3's agenda?
• The commission held the item over with no action until the next meeting.

» "The most outrageous thing that happened today at the meeting was when Freddie Foster asked the chief what additional plans have been made for mini season. A legitimate question. But the [DELETED] of an administrator said 'I'll take that question' and stepped right on chief's opportunity to answer. We were all just aghast. Fortunately chief did get a word in, but he appeared befuddled and thrown off. I was in the room but turrned on the zoom so that I could (hopefully) hear better, but it wasn't much better."
• Yeah.
• Grade schools regulate against bullies. This Commission insists on "decorum."
• The real Key Colony hopes we don't lose Chief DiGiovanni over this but it's good for all the voters to see what the Gang of 3 has wrought.

» And in other news, the commission voted unanimously to renew the iguana control contract. "Are they edible? Pets? Dangerous? Valuable skins?"
• KCB pays about $16 per lizard for it. Dunno what it gets us. Maybe Iguana Control puts jeweled collars on them.
