Proposal #3 from a KCB resident
![]()
This was the simplest proposal of all.
The current city hall, no matter what "they" tell you, was never condemned. The pilings and grade beams and floors and walls were inspected by an engineer and by a respected builder and found to be just fine. Some repairs will be needed and the center (administrative) section requires $30-40,000 of pin pilings to stabilize the floor. And the City would have to deploy the flood barriers (already in city hall) during emergencies.
Some long time KCB residents looked at floor plans that would house the actual employees the city has and would serve the residents and visitors going forward. The building doesn't even need to get"a little bit higher." Because there's no gun tower, this proposal was a non-starter.
The current city hall has a footprint of about 137' x 50' (measured on Google Earth, not surveyed) or about 6,350 s.f. on the ground floor.![]()
This floorplan provides offices for the working Mayor (or city administrator if that position is maintained), the city clerk, a utility clerk, two administrative assistants, and a reception area. There are two conference rooms. The building department comes down to the same floor with the rest of the staff and grows in size. The police department also increases in size. A new "East Wing" provides secure storage for city records and for the building utilities.
Cheaper. Faster. Fits the real needs of the city. Then-Mayor John DeNeale didn't even look at this one. Current Mayor Patti Trefrey probably has "never heard of it," either.
